In addition to direct intervention and consultation, physical therapists promote health and fitness for individuals with all levels of ability and provide information to and collaborate with families and other medical specialists.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy at the Hazelwood Specialty Clinic specializes in adapting and customizing services for individuals with IDD helping them participate in meaningful activities. A holistic approach includes assessing and addressing, physical, cognitive, sensory and environmental aspects of the individual and their care. Occupational Therapy services consists of an individualized evaluation and treatment for therapy needs related to:
- Activities of daily living – eating, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, bathing, toileting, functional movement
- Instrumental activities of daily living – housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, basic communication skills, community transportation, medication and money management
- Safety and environmental modifications
- Adaptive equipment
- Physical disabilities
- Upper extremity dysfunction
- Splint use and care
- Sensory processing disorders
- Cognitive impairments
Speech and Language Therapy
Promoting optimal communication, socialization and swallowing skills is crucial to participating in all facets of life. Our compassionate speech and language therapists work with clients to achieve positive outcomes promoting independence and safety with the individuals they serve. Speech and language therapy includes services for:
- Receptive and expressive language delays and disorders
- Cognitive and communicative disorders
- Dysphagia or swallowing difficulties
- Oral motor complications
- Feeding issues
- Augmentative alternative communication and functional communication
Aquatic Therapy
Hazelwood Centers offers Aquatic Therapy through Physical and Occupational Therapy for strengthening, ambulation, standing balance, tone reduction, range of motion, pain reduction, and sensory integration. Hazelwood Center has a therapeutic pool that is maintained at ~94 degrees to provide relaxation for the individuals we serve. Hazelwood Center provides 1:1 therapy for any individuals who are receiving Aquatic Therapy.
